The Iris Theater was frequented by many celebrities, and she was romantically involved with several, resulting in her appearance on the cover of gossip magazines. Later she starred at The Capri night club located in the Hotel Regis that was destroyed after the 1985 Mexico City earthquake. She became an exotic dancer with an unusual act that consisted of her singing on a pedestal, then holding her right leg straight up tight to her body and pivoting around the pedestal on the other foot, never losing her balance. In 1969, she began working at a cabaret show in the Teatro Esperanza Iris, where she adopted the name "Lyn May". Back in Acapulco, May became a go-go dancer in order to support her daughters.Īfter she was discovered and taken to Mexico City, she was introduced to television presenter Raúl Velasco, who signed her as a dancer for Siempre en Domingo. Shortly after becoming pregnant for the second time and being assaulted, she left. Two daughters resulted from the marriage. May suffered from physical abuse during the marriage, including during pregnancy when her husband attempted to induce an abortion. May reported the rape to police, however after he was caught, May's father forced the perpetrator to marry her to "rectify" the wrong. According to interviews, she was sexually abused during her childhood by the partner of her grandmother.Īt age 14, she ran away from home with an older boyfriend and was subsequently sexually assaulted by him. Unable to attend school since she needed to make money for her family, she taught herself to read. At six years old, she sold necklaces, suntan oil, and other products on the beaches of Acapulco with her mother. Lyn May is of partial Chinese and Japanese descent. She was very well known in the 1970s and 1980s, when she was a central figure in the Mexican exploitation genre known as "cine de ficheras". We all will certainly miss him but we celebrate his life and the time that we shared when he was present and now we will all have our memories. During his later years his only passion was to play cards with family and friends, watch curling, baseball and occasionally visit the casinos. In his earlier years he enjoyed spending time playing billiards with many of his friends. He always enjoyed assisting his children, nieces and nephews and grandkids with various home renovations and playing card games in his spare time. He later worked for Luscar as a dragline operator until his retirement. Lin had tried his hand at being an entrepreneur in a number of businesses, which included farming, trucking, painting and decorating, custom combining and a billiard hall. His final stop in this journey of life was in Red Deer, Alberta which was central to his remaining children. During his retirement he decided to move to Melville, Saskatchewan returning to Estevan in 2007. Lin was born on at a farm near Roche Percee, Saskatchewan and eventually moved into Roche Percee where he lived with his wife and children until they moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan. He is also survived by his sisters, Francis (Frank) and Kay brothers Joe (Mary), Ralph (Sally), Dominick and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lin is survived by his children: Bary Jeannete), Gregory, Linette (Gerald) Scatterty, Dominick (Colette), and Gary. He was predeceased by both his parents, Linus and Katherine wife, Emily, brother Louis (Lou) and sons, William (Bill) and Brian, daughters-in-law, Lynn and Jackie, niece, Candace and brother-in-law Ralph Mack. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Lin Zimmerman of Estevan, Saskatchewan on Thursday, Octoat the age of 94 years in Red Deer, Alberta. ![]()
